This is Darin. He’s an epicurean, a good food maker (something beyond my grasp and something I hold in high regard) and more importantly a talented photographer/documentarian of his culinary manifestations. Darin has also  been a long time supporter of my work. Last spring he acquired Study for Patricia Hearst Mugshot, 2011

This is Jason and Breana, a charming couple that live down the way. Breana, a talented artist/designer, and Jason, an equally talented musician, also enjoy the sport of sailing. Recently, this dashing duo invited me to their house for a cookout and some old fashioned East Bay fellowship. As a token of my esteem and appreciativeness, I burdened them with Flowers In The 94618 II (2011).

This is Sean. He’s a fairly wry and humorous guy, urbane within reason and quite intelligent. I met Sean several years ago at a rock club. Our bands (he was actually in two) played frequent shows together, many of whose flyers I made. Eventually Sean asked me to do the cover art for one of his bands album’s…and I did, since I was a fan of the music, like making shit, and there was a little money in it. These days Sean is some kind of writer or something and he’s pretty good at it too. Seeing that his livelihood depends on literacy it is congruous that he acquire Secret Code No. 19 (Whatever, Just Fucking Read).

Hold it Down, 2011  36cm x 28cm acrylic on canvas
When things don’t go as planned, you must hold it down. When you start to feel yr ghost getting away from you, you must hold it down. When your caught unprepared, you must hold it down. When a sucka tries to test, you must hold it down. When you step onto the dance floor, you must hold it down. You simply must hold it down. Otherwise, what’s the point?
Austin Folks:

Hold it Down will be up for bids at the For Esme, With Love benefit for the family of Esme Barrera taking place Friday January 13th, 2012 at The Annex/Club 1808, 1808 e 12th St ATX 78702. Please go and bid high on any of the lots.

This is Entitled Reflections/David Jones   2011 1:24 mobile video

I usually forget that I can record video with my mobile, however a couple of days ago while sitting with a friend at a picnic table, I remembered. My friend and I were approached by a man seeking alms named David Jones. As this happens frequently I have come up with a set of guidelines to determine how I will react to these encounters. Mr. Jones’ approach and demeanor was unique enough for me to want to engage with him and I’m extremely glad that I did. With his permission I recorded him reciting one of his poems.

Braid, 2011 28cm x 36cm acrylic on canvas

A braid (also called plait) is a complex structure or pattern formed by intertwining three or more strands of flexible material such as textile fibres, wire, or human hair. Compared to the process of weaving a wide sheet of cloth from two separate, perpendicular groups of strands (warp and weft), a braid is usually long and narrow, with each component strand functionally equivalent in zigzagging forward through the overlapping mass of the others. The simplest possible braid is a flat, solid, three-strand structure in some countries/cases called a plait. More complex braids can be constructed from an arbitrary (but usually odd) number of strands to create a wider range of structures: wider ribbon-like bands, hollow or solid cylindrical cords, or broad mats which resemble a rudimentary perpendicular weave. Braids are commonly used to make rope, decorative objects, and hairstyles (also see pigtails, French braid). Complex braids have been used to create hanging fibre artworks. Braiding is also used to prepare horses’ manes and tails for showing, polo and polocrosse. -Wikipedia

This is John. Simply put, he’s a good dude. I first met John (he went by Johnny at the time) when we were both 17 outside of an all ages hardcore show at a gay bar. Over the years John has proven to be one of the most sincere, magnanimous, and energetic people I know. He’s also a talented musician, more specifically a talented front man. Having briefly, by default, found myself with lead vocal duties, I can assure you that shit is not easy. Especially to do it with the easy confidence and charisma that this geek does. I think John responded to Stay Focused Bitch, There’s A Lot Riding On This  because he’s seen some things during his days on the planet and understands that there’s a lot riding on everything, whether it’s work, non-work, making choices or making connections with people. Time is tight.
