Acryl Bloemen, 2008    acrylic and charcoal on 61cm x 101cm 75lb paper

“I brought you these… to cheer up the room.”
                          - every hospital recovery room scene ever filmed

When I googled the above phrase, to see if I could get an exact reference, the third result was this, and supports my thesis entitled “Flowers and Doom : The Fragile Warriors and The Abominable Beast Named Actuality von Reality“©. Additionally, the linked site’s domain name is also a “noteworthy-in-it’s-mundanity” theme that I imagine I’ll address in the future. Acryl Bloemen is my first piece having flowers as the subject. I was inexplicably compelled to do render flowers during a nadir in 2008. Subsequently, I gained a modicum of solace.

This is my mom. Today is her birthday. Me Mum has given me life, knowledge, opportunities, encouragement and love. She is undoubtably one of the core reasons I paint. Some of my earliest memories are of accompanying her on various en plien air painting sessions. It is impossible to count the many times I have joined her on a trip to an art, fabric, or craft store. She has been my biggest fan since my earliest scrawlings and has amassed quite a collection of my works over the years. So I was unable to deny her when she saw On Some Dutch Baroque Floral Shit and let out a proud maternal squeal, even though I told her that I was hoping to liquidate the piece, I had no choice but to yield .Thanks for everything Mom. Happy Birthday, I love you.
